Sheriffs 1826-1976

Under the Territorial Government the Sheriff was appointed by the Governor from the time the Office was created in 1792. Pease, OP. CIT., G., under the first COnstitutionthe Office was made elective for two year terms and was not changed unitl 1936, when the term was increased to four years --- Ohio Const., 1802, ART. VI, SEC. 1; Laws of Ohio, CXVI, PT II, 184.
